Personal Users what choices do you have?

Personal Users what choices do you have?

ProtectHear® not only manufactures ear plugs suitable for the working environment but also to accommodate needs for personal users. Here are the ear plugs we have to offer:

Sleep ear plugs – The difference with our sleep plugs are that they are canal length only and hollowed on the outer face for comfort. The sleep plugs lower background noise allowing you to sleep easy, yet still allowing you to hear noises such as fire alarms.

Shoot ear plugs – We supply CENS (Custom Electronic Noise Suppressors) which are made from either acrylic or a soft silicone material. They allow noise through to enable communication, but also shut down noise from gunfire as they are equipped with active electronics.

Bike ear plugs – At speed the noise in your motorbike helmet can exceed the given limit for noise protection. Our ear plugs are designed to block out wind noise and motorbike noise so you can ride your bike with full protection.

Swim ear plugs – Our swim range is designed to prevent water entering the ear canal and offers comfort and protection. If they are removed in the water they are retrievable as they float.

Our music range can be divided into active and passive:

Musician ear plugs (passive) – The ER passive range allows louder sounds to be blocked, whilst allowing lower frequencies pass through. Users can appreciate the sound that comes through to enjoy the experience, but can be assured that it is at a safe level. All frequencies are given a flat response, so pitch and tones are maintained for all sounds and our plugs are available in 3 levels of reduction.

Music ear plugs (active) – We supply i-monitor pros which are compatible with mp3 players and smartphones. These ear plugs produce a high quality hi-fi sound and are a comfortable and fashionable way of listening to music.

Earplugs in the Food Industry

Earplugs in the Food Industry

Earplugs are used in a range of different sectors from food and drink to engineering, noise is always an issue in production, the two options to prevent this are provision of hearing protection or reducing the noise at source.

We supply over 1000 companies with our custom moulded earplugs and have been operating since 2000. This year we were pleased to welcome many new food customers to the ever growing list, with our ProtectHear® being approved by all Food Safety committees. In the food sector hearing protection is particularly important as the machinery makes constant noise, exceeding the 85 dB level where hearing protection is mandatory.

Another consideration with food is hygiene, the ear plugs must meet a certain standard being metal detectable and non-harmful if dropped into any of the production lines.   Our ProtectHear® can be worn with all forms of PPE and offer supreme comfort to those working in noisy areas all through the day. We can also offer communication accessories to fit any radio.

Custom ear plugs take to the track – Renault Formula One

Custom ear plugs

Did you know that the Renault F1 team use custom ear plugs? As they are working on the track the team need to hear conversation whilst being protected. With cockpit noise often topping a whopping 130 decibels (dB) custom hearing protection is perfect for this. Allowing them to keep their earplugs in whilst hearing important and often critical instructions. Disposables in this type of environment would have to be removed constantly, and the team wouldn’t be able to communicate properly with this type of protection.

Hearing protection is a big deal in Formula One, from the track team, spectators to the drivers themselves. In an interview in The Daily Mail in 2006 Sterling Moss talked publicly about his battle with hearing loss due to the sport, he said: “I used to stuff my ears with cotton wool to muffle the sound and make me more comfortable. But after every race, I’d have a sound like a rushing waterfall in my ears. It went on for days, an annoying noise in the background. Then you’d be on to the next race. After a while, the noise just never went and it remained always in the background. I know now this was tinnitus, a warning sign that my hearing was being damaged.”

As standard, the hearing protection currently provided most to Formula One drivers is that of custom ear plugs with built-in speakers and the Renault crew have clearly been given this treatment. Two scientists from the US National Institute of Occupational Safety and Hazard said a while back that the whole crew should also be offered this kind of protection and that awareness should be brought to spectators too.

SpeakHear® Communications

Radio Accessories such as SpeakHear® are also important for Formula One teams to communicate; with custom ear plugs clients can be connected to radios. This allows communication to each other, without the need to remove the earplug – the protection is very much like ear defenders, but offers an advanced way of staying protected, whilst being able to hear surroundings.

An ‘Event’Full Year for ProtectHear®!

So 2016 is almost at an end and what a year it has been, ProtectHear® have exhibited at five shows and done lots more besides. Show-wise we met hundreds of people at three of the SHE Shows in Blackpool, Milton Keynes and Newcastle and two of The Health and Safety Events. Including a new show to the list ‘Health and Safety North’ at the Bolton Arena.

ProtectHear

We have been going to the SHE shows now for seven years and The Health and Safety Events for two. The show at Birmingham was our second year and Bolton our first. Western Business Exhibitions and Washington Dowling do a great job organising the events and we meet lots of people in Health and Safety who are interested in custom moulded hearing protection.

It has been a busy year for us also as we finished our rebranding project, transitioning our exhibition presence from At Source QX Ltd to our product brand name ProtectHear®.

ProtectHear

The rebranding certainly caught everyone’s attention this year with the new graphic design and display monitor with continuous rolling slides, and we loved launching our new Cost Saving Calculator stand so that clients can realise their projected savings in an instant when switch from disposable earplugs to custom moulded. Retro-wise it is always a big attraction seeing our obelisk full of disposables, an eye catching and great way to illustrate how many disposables on average people use per annum.

Our moulded earplugs are unique and events like these are perfect ways of getting the product out there, as some people still haven’t heard about custom moulded. We boast a wide portfolio of customers such as Network Rail, Weetabix and Kraft.

Our ’Try Before You Buy’ trial is a popular option with companies, helping them decide on the suitability of our hearing protection without committing fully. Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) is on the rise and we are trying to help to prevent claims and maintain hearing health, with our product lasting five years and offering full protection. We also educate the workforce as to why it is so important to protect your hearing, as the effects of NIHL are irreversible.

How to clean your custom moulded earplugs explained

What should I clean my earplugs with?

For best results use mild soapy water and a paper towel or a face wipe to remove the dust and wax from the ear tip.

How do I clean them properly?

If there is a build-up of wax you wish to get rid of then you should do so by squeezing the tip of the canal between the thumb and index finger, and then wipe the wax off.

Health and Safety North Listen in….

The Health and Safety North Listen in…

ProtectHear® exhibited its 4th Event of the year, The Health and Safety North Show, held at the Bolton Arena. This was the second event of the year organised by Western Business Exhibitions, our first show outside of the NEC and it certainly exceeded expectations.

The event was over a 2 day period with a full programme, conferences, seminars and guest speakers throughout the day. The show had over 2500 visitors with employees from industrial sectors visiting.

This was yet again a great opportunity for ProtectHear® to showcase our many products and services. To promote custom moulded earplugs and how we are here to help prevent NIHL (Noise Induced Hearing Loss). Hearing is very important especially when you consider that hearing loss is irreversible.

Our next show with Western Business Exhibitions will be the Health and Safety NEC 2017 in March. Come visit us for more information on our company.
