Personal Users what choices do you have?

Personal Users what choices do you have?

ProtectHear® not only manufactures ear plugs suitable for the working environment but also to accommodate needs for personal users. Here are the ear plugs we have to offer:

Sleep ear plugs – The difference with our sleep plugs are that they are canal length only and hollowed on the outer face for comfort. The sleep plugs lower background noise allowing you to sleep easy, yet still allowing you to hear noises such as fire alarms.

Shoot ear plugs – We supply CENS (Custom Electronic Noise Suppressors) which are made from either acrylic or a soft silicone material. They allow noise through to enable communication, but also shut down noise from gunfire as they are equipped with active electronics.

Bike ear plugs – At speed the noise in your motorbike helmet can exceed the given limit for noise protection. Our ear plugs are designed to block out wind noise and motorbike noise so you can ride your bike with full protection.

Swim ear plugs – Our swim range is designed to prevent water entering the ear canal and offers comfort and protection. If they are removed in the water they are retrievable as they float.

Our music range can be divided into active and passive:

Musician ear plugs (passive) – The ER passive range allows louder sounds to be blocked, whilst allowing lower frequencies pass through. Users can appreciate the sound that comes through to enjoy the experience, but can be assured that it is at a safe level. All frequencies are given a flat response, so pitch and tones are maintained for all sounds and our plugs are available in 3 levels of reduction.

Music ear plugs (active) – We supply i-monitor pros which are compatible with mp3 players and smartphones. These ear plugs produce a high quality hi-fi sound and are a comfortable and fashionable way of listening to music.

The personally moulded earplug ‘impression’ process

Before deciding to throw away those disposable earplugs for good and switch to personally moulded hearing protection, many of our clients ask us how the whole personally moulded earplug scenario works.

earplugs

So that we can cleverly make your very own bespoke pair of earplugs, that fit comfortably and protect you from noise (whilst still being able to hear those important things like warning signals or your colleague’s speech), we have to take an ‘impression’ or mould of your ear shape.

A common question is “what does this process involve and what does it feel like when you take an impression or moulding of my ear?”

So here is the lowdown…. thanks to model Steve for this demo.

  1. Sit comfortably and relax.
  2. Our qualified practitioner (who has the same level of expertise as an audiology nurse performing the same process) will then take a quick look inside your ear using a device with a tiny light, just to check that everything looks OK. step 1
  3. The practitioner then carefully inserts a small foam barrier into your ear very gently, you will hardly feel this and it has a string on it so it won’t get lost in there!step 2
  4. The fun then begins. The practitioner gently fills your ear with a non-toxic soft silicone moulding material – Barbie would love the pink! This feels a bit like inserting your usual foam earplugs so you will then be unable to hear very well once the moulding material is in there.step 3
  5. You wait around 3 minutes for the mould to set.step 4
  6. Hey presto, we gently remove the moulding material and tiny foam plug and you’re all done.
  7. We send off the impression, and your personally moulded earplug set arrives within a couple of weeks!

The process takes no more than 5 minutes to complete from start to finish, not bad for a pair of earplugs that last five years.

Moulded Earplugs in Bike Magazine

Bike Magazine has tested a variety of earplugs lately, included our moulded earplugs.

Journalist Dale Nuttall has spent two years testing various earplugs and had this to say about ProtectHear® personally moulded earplugs:

  • Moulded and silicone earplugs are easier to clean
  • Our medical grade silicone design dealt well with high levels of noise experienced on a track focused machine

Custom hearing protection at the Health and Safety Event

yellow plugsWe attended the health and safety event the other week where our ProtectHear® custom earplugs were on show.

Attendees were responsible for health and safety at work and custom hearing protection is obviously on the agenda for many of them judging by the amount of traffic we got to our stand.

Delegates were interested in how custom hearing protection, like our moulded earplugs, could offer extra benefits in comparison to disposable ones:

• Lower cost when compared to disposables – more than £400 per employee in many cases. Try our cost saving calculator.
• Better fit as they are custom moulded to fit the users ears.
• Bespoke – can be solid, or vented to allow certain noises through such as speech, warning signals etc
• Designed for all day use if required.
• Hygenic, washable, easy to look after.
• High quality and sense of ownership by the user.
• Simple yet effective training from us, so the user can care for their earplugs as well as their health.
No obligation trial for a segment of your workforce.
• Better for the environment – no more excessive landfill.

Landfill??? Or just one pair for 5 years?
